Captains Foreword

Hello to all current and new members and welcome to the 2024 golf season at our wonderful course in this beautiful part of Staffordshire.

I would like to thank the Club for giving me the opportunity, privilege and honour to represent the Club for this coming year...I hope I make you all proud and continue to improve the Club's growing presence in Staffordhsire golf.

My Vice-Captain, Andy Fisher and I, would like to meet and play with as many members as possible over the year, as well as supporting the club competitions, visitors and other teams. If you see us down on the booking portal with some gaps, please feel free to join us for a friendly game.

Along with the other officials, we are here to support all members and the club, so please feel free to approach us with any ideas or issues you would like to raise to the relevant committees. I am also looking forward to working with our Lady Captain for the year, Pam Pritchard and Seniors Captain Malcolm Cooper. We will do our best to listen and serve everyone's interests.

I am writing at a time when we transition to a new online format for as much communication as possible, and also when the club continues to look forward to ways we can improve members' involvement and experience. The Manor has always been a friendly, inclusive golf club, and it's important that we maintain this as we go through the year, welcoming new members, opposition teams, juniors, visitors and guests. The more support you can give the better we will become.

I would like to thank last year's Captain, Dave Mullington for his support, and also the Club, for continuing to invest in its continued development. This year we look forward to further improvements, but most importantly the upgraded bunkers we have been looking forward to. Jack and his team do an amazing job, and I think they have prepared the course for this season incredibly well. It gets better and better each year. As members, we need to try and do our bit to help the ground staff maintain the high standards we have come to enjoy on the course.

Finally, I would like to introduce the Captains Charity of the year. I have chosen A Child of Mine - For Bereaved Parents ( www.achildofmine.org.uk), founded by Gayle Routledge just over 10 years ago, following the loss of her young son and finding little or no support available for parents. This is a Stafford based charity with several groups in the area, including Uttoxeter. It also has a support pack in every hospital in the UK, offering support to parents/children who have lost children/brothers and sisters. I have been involved in it for about 8 years, most recently as the Chair of the Board of Trustees. I hope to raise as much as possible this year to help fund its amazing work. Any support or attendance to events at the club, will be much appreciated. Thanks guys !

Wishing you all a healthy, enjoyable and successful golfing year.
